Commercial solar near Croxley Park: a feasibility checklist

Assess roof rights, working-day demand, supply capacity and permissions before planning solar for business premises.

Where should a business assessment begin?

Begin with the premises, the occupier and the electricity account. Croxley Park’s own website identifies its address as Watford WD18 8AS. A business name or a nearby town label is not enough to determine the planning authority, property owner or grant eligibility.

This guide is for businesses considering their own premises. Croxley Green Solar is not the park operator and does not claim to have completed installations there. Speak with the landlord or managing agent before arranging any survey that requires roof access.

Does solar generation match operating hours?

Provide interval electricity data where available, with weekdays, weekends and seasonal changes visible. Solar photovoltaic panels generate electricity during daylight. A business with substantial daytime use may consume a different share of output from premises that are closed at those times.

Ask the installer to compare generation with the actual demand profile. Identify any expected expansion, equipment replacement or change in occupation. A forecast built only from annual spending may confuse price changes with changes in electricity consumption.

Who controls the roof and equipment?

Check the lease, landlord consent and the expected remaining period of occupation. Establish who owns the installed equipment, who can access it and what happens when the lease ends. Those matters deserve a written agreement before relying on a financial model.

For shared premises, determine which supply would receive the generation and how benefits or costs would be allocated. Ask your advisers to review maintenance access, roof warranties, insurer requirements and any removal obligations.

What physical and electrical work is required?

The assessment should cover structure, covering condition, safe access and how mounting interacts with the roof. Include any planned refurbishment. Clarify whether the quote assumes the roof is already suitable or includes further investigation and repairs.

On the electrical side, ask the installer to assess supply capacity, connection arrangements and export restrictions. Network approval or upgrade work can affect both cost and timing. Model any export limit in the business case rather than assuming every surplus unit can be sold.

Does a battery or workplace charger add value?

Give each addition a separate purpose and cost. Storage might move generation into later operating hours; workplace charging depends on vehicle dwell times, access arrangements and supply capacity. Neither should be included solely because it appears in a standard commercial package.

Request a baseline rooftop-PV model and then the incremental effect of each addition. Include maintenance, monitoring, replacement allowances and downtime assumptions. If a finance product or power purchase agreement is offered, obtain appropriate advice on its full obligations.

How should you proceed with funding and approvals?

Confirm the relevant local authority using the premises address. Three Rivers business-support information should not be assumed to apply to a Watford trading address. Any grant has its own conditions and application sequence; eligibility needs confirmation before it enters the budget.

Croxley Green Solar can connect a commercial enquiry with a partner installer. Provide the premises details, roof ownership position and electricity data to make the next appointment useful. The installer agrees survey, design and contract terms directly with you.
